While all locations of Crossnore Communities for Children could be called Miracle Grounds, the particular building that is home to the Coffee Shop has occupied a colorful place in the history of the town of Crossnore, NC.
Historians believe the building was built sometime in the 1920s, making it one of the oldest commercial buildings in Crossnore. The Coffee Shop building is constructed of stone from the Linville River, just as many of the town’s historic buildings are, including Crossnore Weavers and Fine Arts Gallery, E.H. Sloop Chapel, and Crossnore Presbyterian Church.
Crossnore Communities for Children acquired Miracle Grounds in February 2006. Phillip and Chantae Johnson and Mark and Gina Johnson Aldridge owned the building until 2006. It had been in the Johnson family for as long as anyone can remember. Crossnore Communities for Children thanks the Johnson family for their longtime support!
Our friend, Conrad, selects the coffees from all over the world and roasts them in nearby Boone, North Carolina. The Pixie Motor Inn is a family owned and operated motel just one Block from the Intersection of U.S. 221 & N. C. 105. The Skyline Village Inn has been a landmark adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway for 70 years. In 1938 John Greer bought the land next to the Parkway and started making moonshine in a cavern just off the road on what is now NC 226 Alt. The US Government had begun construction of the Parkway only 3 years prior and had plans to construct a bridge over NC 26 (now 226A). John made plans to construct a gas station and store alongside the Parkway. He funded these plans with the money he made selling moonshine.

There are 4-5 restaurants within 4-7 miles, and many more a little further out. The High Country offers everything from country food to gourmet. For those who love country food there is the famous Daniel Boone Inn (in Boone), and Louise’s Rock House in Linville Falls. For those that enjoy fine dining there is the upscale Artisanal in Banner Elk (seasonal – Top 100 Restaurants in the USA), the Gamekeeper in Boone, and Gideon Ridge in Blowing Rock. For all others there are plenty of choices. It is best to make a reservation for most better restaurants (several weeks ahead in July and October). You can look under our “Nearby” tab (scroll all the way down) for specific restaurant suggestions.
In the evenings, when the weather is nice, you can sit by the fire-pit and roast marshmallows while you check out the star-filled sky, and catch up with your loved ones. When it’s too cold, you can sip hot chocolate or wine in your cozy sitting area.

They will be serving food starting May 1st. They have also renovated the store, and it looks great. While all locations of Crossnore Communities for Children could be called Miracle Grounds, the particular building that is home to the Coffee Shop has occupied a colorful place in the history of the town of Crossnore, NC.
Historians believe the building was built sometime in the 1920s, making it one of the oldest commercial buildings in Crossnore. The Coffee Shop building is constructed of stone from the Linville River, just as many of the town’s historic buildings are, including Crossnore Weavers and Fine Arts Gallery, E.H. Sloop Chapel, and Crossnore Presbyterian Church.
Crossnore Communities for Children acquired Miracle Grounds in February 2006. Phillip and Chantae Johnson and Mark and Gina Johnson Aldridge owned the building until 2006. It had been in the Johnson family for as long as anyone can remember. Crossnore Communities for Children thanks the Johnson family for their longtime support!

The Pixie Motor Inn is a family owned and operated motel just one Block from the Intersection of U.S. 221 & N. C. 105. It is located in Avery County at the base of Pixie Mountain at 4150 Mitchell Avenue in Linville, North Carolina, a small resort town tucked away in the Blue Mountains. The Pixie Motor Inn is said to be “In the shadow of famous Grandfather Mountain,” which is two miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway Viaduct. Owned by the Hughes family, the Pixie Motor Inn has 25 modern clean grade A rooms, telephones and cable TV. A Pixie Inn postcard from the 1960s stated the inn was “Air-conditioned by Nature.” They have since installed air conditioning in all the rooms. The Skyline Village Inn has been a landmark adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway for 70 years. In 1938 John Greer bought the land next to the Parkway and started making moonshine in a cavern just off the road on what is now NC 226 Alt. The US Government had begun construction of the Parkway only 3 years prior and had plans to construct a bridge over NC 26 (now 226A). John made plans to construct a gas station and store alongside the Parkway. He funded these plans with the money he made selling moonshine.

The Murder Mountain Run motorcycle ride is an exhilarating and thrilling adventure that takes riders through the picturesque yet mysterious landscapes of North Carolina. This ride combines the adrenaline rush of motorcycle riding with the intrigue of exploring the infamous Murder of Charlie Silvers took place in 1830. Riders will navigate winding roads, dense forests, and breathtaking vistas, all while immersing themselves in the captivating history and legends surrounding this enigmatic place. Thus calling the ride “Murder Mountain Run”, as the motorcycle travels by the church were there are three headstones for different body parts found after the incident. The ride is 114 miles long and meanders from the Spruce Pine and Little Switzerland area, south on the Blue Ridge Parkway to NC 80. After a short ride on US Hwy 19E, it turns north on NC 80 through Kona, where the infamous murder happened before Christmas in 1831. The legend is told that Frankie Silvers wife to Charlie Silvers, killed her husband with an axe in a fit of jealous rage. Murder Mountain Run motorcycle ride promises to deliver an unforgettable journey filled with excitement, beauty, and a touch of mystery.

Built in 1921, the Blue Ridge Boutique Hotel is housed in the former Spruce Pine Elementary School building. It sits alongside the Toe River and is connected by a foot bridge to downtown Spruce Pine.
The hotel is operated by the non-profit: Mayland Community College Enterprise Corporation and is run by students attending the college, all of whom are more than happy to tell you about their school experience, career aspirations, and provide insight into local amenities.

Visitor Centers are a great resource for families along the trip. Restrooms, snacks and a variety of learning opportunities are all available at these facilities.Knowledgeable volunteers and Rangers are available to answer questions and share information about the natural resources of the region.Kids can get “sworn in” as Junior Rangers at Visitor Centers and pick up their free activity kits. Junior Rangers learn while they experience the Parkway, earning badges as they complete activities across the four regions of the Parkway.
The Lodge Office structure was built in 1915 by the famous sculptor, Warren Wheelock, who spent his summers there sculpting and painting with his artist friends from New York and Chicago. The Lodge was built by Guy Huskins in 1937 when he purchased the property and has been in our family since then. The Lodge has 9 rooms with outdoor decks and 5 cottages (all with outdoor covered decks), including the Manor House that has 6 bedrooms. We also have a stone fire pit in our gardens that has become a popular gathering spot for our guests. The Village of Linville Falls is a historic community that became one of the High Country’s well-known tourism destinations after the Blue Ridge Parkway was built.

The Parkview Lodge is a historic roadside motel located on Hwy 221 in Linville Falls, just one block from the Blue Ridge Parkway. The motel and cabins are family-owned (under new ownership) and being renovated with new furnishings and more.
Cross Creek Cabins offers five cozy, fully-furnished Log Cabins located in scenic Linville Falls –– a unique destination, home of the well-known “Waterfalls” and the mysterious “Brown Mountain Lights.” We are located on Highway 183, one mile east of US Hwy 221 in Linville Falls.
Wiseman Ridge is a boutique micro campground for RVs only, first opened in July of 2022. Our property adjoins the Blue Ridge Parkway in Linville Falls NC with easy access off NC 221. We offer full hook up RV sites with views of Hawksbill, Table Rock and Humpback Mountains. Micro means we have only a handful of sites but that is where micro ends. Each site is expansive, with large areas to spread out and enjoy the views or play yard games. Unlike typical RV parks our sites are spread out on the ridge top and offer great views and lots of space.

There are 4-5 restaurants within 4-7 miles, and many more a little further out. The High Country offers everything from country food to gourmet. For those who love country food there is the famous Daniel Boone Inn (in Boone), and Louise’s Rock House in Linville Falls. For those that enjoy fine dining there is the upscale Artisanal in Banner Elk (seasonal – Top 100 Restaurants in the USA), the Gamekeeper in Boone, and Gideon Ridge in Blowing Rock. For all others there are plenty of choices. It is best to make a reservation for most better restaurants (several weeks ahead in July and October). You can look under our “Nearby” tab (scroll all the way down) for specific restaurant suggestions.
In the evenings, when the weather is nice, you can sit by the fire-pit and roast marshmallows while you check out the star-filled sky, and catch up with your loved ones. When it’s too cold, you can sip hot chocolate or wine in your cozy sitting area.

A steep, 0.8-mile trail leads to this cascading waterfall. The trail is open only to hikers. Upper Creek Falls is located in the Jonas Ridge Area of Burke County. Trails leading to the top and bottom of the falls are popular among sunbathers, swimmers, and fishermen, so plan on having company unless you arrive earlier.

Historians believe the building was built sometime in the 1920s, making it one of the oldest commercial buildings in Crossnore. The Coffee Shop building is constructed of stone from the Linville River, just as many of the town’s historic buildings are, including Crossnore Weavers and Fine Arts Gallery, E.H. Sloop Chapel, and Crossnore Presbyterian Church.
Crossnore Communities for Children acquired Miracle Grounds in February 2006. Phillip and Chantae Johnson and Mark and Gina Johnson Aldridge owned the building until 2006. It had been in the Johnson family for as long as anyone can remember. Crossnore Communities for Children thanks the Johnson family for their longtime support!
Our friend, Conrad, selects the coffees from all over the world and roasts them in nearby Boone, North Carolina. Many varieties grow on organic farms and Conrad purchases all of the coffees in fair-trade business agreements. Because we love feeding our growing community, that means we needed a little more elbow space and we made the big decision to move our location to the old Fatz Café right across the street! We’ve dug in deep to clean, remodel, redecorate, and hire (yay for creating jobs!) in order to serve you better with an exciting new menu that includes the same high-quality foods you’ve grown to love! We’re adding steaks, seafood, pasta, and more with a full-service restaurant and bar, as well as lots of fun artwork that reflects what we love most about our community and state.
Expanding means we had to order lots of new equipment, and unfortunately this pandemic caused unexpected delays in delivery. If we’ve learned anything through this, it’s to adjust, adapt, and come up with an alternate plan!
Beginning Tuesday August 25th, J. Hartman’s Restaurant will open under the same concept as Holly’s Deli with the same menu, but at our new location. Initially our hours will be: Monday – Saturday 10:30am-4:00pm. The best part is we have much more space for customers to stay healthy and socially distance, while still enjoying a yummy lunch menu! Come check out our new space and enjoy lunch, a cold drink from the bar, and get a sneak peek of our full-service menu that we anticipate to offer in the very near future!

A pull off overlook on Highway 181 between mile marker 20 and 21 to view Brown Mountain off highway 181 the PineolaPython181.com. This is a perfect place to take a break, have a snack on one of the picnic tables, or take a photo of the mountainous views from the overlook. Elevation here is 2760 ft.
