The Skyline Village Inn has been a landmark adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway for 70 years. In 1938 John Greer bought the land next to the Parkway and started making moonshine in a cavern just off the road on what is now NC 226 Alt. The US Government had begun construction of the Parkway only 3 years prior and had plans to construct a bridge over NC 26 (now 226A). John made plans to construct a gas station and store alongside the Parkway. He funded these plans with the money he made selling moonshine.
Our shop resides in what was once an iconic greasy spoon in our community. The restaurant was home to the “Liars Table,” an open table where anyone could pull up a chair, order a cup of coffee and be sure to hear some tall tales.

There are 4-5 restaurants within 4-7 miles, and many more a little further out. The High Country offers everything from country food to gourmet. For those who love country food there is the famous Daniel Boone Inn (in Boone), and Louise’s Rock House in Linville Falls. For those that enjoy fine dining there is the upscale Artisanal in Banner Elk (seasonal – Top 100 Restaurants in the USA), the Gamekeeper in Boone, and Gideon Ridge in Blowing Rock. For all others there are plenty of choices. It is best to make a reservation for most better restaurants (several weeks ahead in July and October). The GreatSmokiesRun441.com is a 42-mile motorcycle ride must for those who visit the Blue Ridge Mountains, and everyone here knows the Newfound Gap Road Route 441 from the town of Cherokee North Carolina the main route through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park connecting to Gatlinburg. The GreatSmokiesRun441 motorcycle route is a great run for beginners and is at an elevation of over 5,000 feet, it is still great for a quick climb into the forest where you can get lost in the trees and tunnels. There are a few switchbacks that are easy to navigate due to the national park speed limit. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is among the most visited national parks in the world! The route goes through many altitude changes and offers plenty of striking views. As you travel down the road, you’ll find plenty of scenic pullouts that provide beautiful sights of the mountains. When you reach Clingman’s Dome, you’ll be at the highest point in Tennessee. You can look over a dozen mountain ridges when you look east on a clear day.

The Linville Gorge Wilderness, in the mountains of Western North Carolina, is part of the Pisgah National Forest. The gorge is formed by the Jonas Ridge on the east and Linville Mountain on the west and is bisected by the Linville River which drops 2,000 feet into the valleys below. The Lodge Office structure was built in 1915 by the famous sculptor, Warren Wheelock, who spent his summers there sculpting and painting with his artist friends from New York and Chicago. The Lodge was built by Guy Huskins in 1937 when he purchased the property and has been in our family since then. The Lodge has 9 rooms with outdoor decks and 5 cottages (all with outdoor covered decks), including the Manor House that has 6 bedrooms. We also have a stone fire pit in our gardens that has become a popular gathering spot for our guests. The Village of Linville Falls is a historic community that became one of the High Country’s well-known tourism destinations after the Blue Ridge Parkway was built.

There is much to do in the area, and numerous quaint small mountain towns to explore.
There are 4-5 restaurants within 4-7 miles, and many more a little further out. The High Country offers everything from country food to gourmet. For those who love country food there is the famous Daniel Boone Inn (in Boone), and Louise’s Rock House in Linville Falls. For those that enjoy fine dining there is the upscale Artisanal in Banner Elk (seasonal – Top 100 Restaurants in the USA), the Gamekeeper in Boone, and Gideon Ridge in Blowing Rock. For all others there are plenty of choices. It is best to make a reservation for most better restaurants (several weeks ahead in July and October). You can look under our “Nearby” tab (scroll all the way down) for specific restaurant suggestions.
In the evenings, when the weather is nice, you can sit by the fire-pit and roast marshmallows while you check out the star-filled sky, and catch up with your loved ones. When it’s too cold, you can sip hot chocolate or wine in your cozy sitting area.
We’re just off I-40, with easy access to outdoor activities. Pisgah National Forest, Lake James State Park, and South Mountains State Park are within half an hour; Grandfather Mountain and Linville Gorge are about an hour away. A steep, 0.8-mile trail leads to this cascading waterfall. The trail is open only to hikers. Upper Creek Falls is located in the Jonas Ridge Area of Burke County. Historians believe the building was built sometime in the 1920s, making it one of the oldest commercial buildings in Crossnore. The Coffee Shop building is constructed of stone from the Linville River, just as many of the town’s historic buildings are, including Crossnore Weavers and Fine Arts Gallery, E.H. Sloop Chapel, and Crossnore Presbyterian Church.
Crossnore Communities for Children acquired Miracle Grounds in February 2006. Phillip and Chantae Johnson and Mark and Gina Johnson Aldridge owned the building until 2006. It had been in the Johnson family for as long as anyone can remember. Crossnore Communities for Children thanks the Johnson family for their longtime support!
Our friend, Conrad, selects the coffees from all over the world and roasts them in nearby Boone, North Carolina. Many varieties grow on organic farms and Conrad purchases all of the coffees in fair-trade business agreements. Miracle Grounds Coffee Shop & Cafe also serves a variety of specialty drinks, teas, and breakfast and lunch specials daily.
